mav scb March 17, 2024 Much like the origin story of how MAV and I met, I first met Blair Stocker online over a dozen years ago. We were both moms to young kids, curious about making connections and finding inspiration through blogs, and antsy to put the creative discipline from our previous work lives to good use. We remain good friends, online and off, all these years later (now we text each other about college visits, the computers our sons built, and the best new podcasts). I was really pleased and flattered when Blair asked me to help bring her book Wise Craft Quilts to life with photographs. The quilts in Wise Craft Quilts are primarily made from unconventional, but familiar materials—the literal fabric of our lives—silk from a wedding dress, treasured baby clothes, men’s dress shirts, worn denim, vintage woolens. Blair reimagines these materials into modern textiles for everyday use and display. If you are new to quilting, Blair will hold your hand and explain terms and techniques. If you are an experienced quilter, Blair will introduce you to new ways of looking at fabric and share her tips for transforming treasured items into patchwork. My job as I saw it was to capture the quilts in settings that befit their history and originality. I loved imagining where each one might live and filling in those surroundings. I also loved capturing all the details of Blair’s work, her inspirations, and her process. Thank you Blair! Save Share TWITTER FACEBOOK TUMBLR PINTEREST EMAIL
